Africa:A Spiritual Journey
Africa is a spiritual Journey. It is a bit indescribable, one only really gets it once you arrive.
As a designer, I find travel to be one of my biggest inspirations. It influences my work greatly. Africa is a trip for the person who is an explorer. Africa is for the one who is adventurous and open minded. It is a place where you breathe in the good and exhale the bad. Africa is a place that connects you with nature and the wild. You will forever be changed after your feet meet the soil. If you call yourself a traveler, you must visit this vast continent. You TRUELY experience the circle of life.
My first trip to Africa was in 2007 to Tanzania to see the great migration. In February 2023, I made my fourth journey to Africa. Each time I return to the great continent I am lucky to explore new places and even luckier to return to the special places that have previously moved me. On this journey, my new exploration was to Western Coast of South Africa. The land of Namibia, distinguished by the Namib dessert on the Atlantic. I returned to my beloved Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the stunning Victoria Falls. Each time I return I take something new home with me.
Although Africa is a place that we all know contains wonders, it really is a journey that must be experienced to truly understand the full spectrum of the Spirituality and life change it will have on you. It is often said Africa is a once in a lifetime experience, but with Africa you will want to be back to experience more.
To see these magnificent animals in their original environment is like no other. On a game drive we came upon three ostrich and my friend Marsha Tindall said “wouldn’t you like to see God’s sketchbook when he was making the ostrich?”…. oh how true that statement is! Big and small all the creatures play apart in the eco system and circle of life which plays a roll in how we all have purpose and meaning no matter how great or small. Our role in this life is connected and linked to others and it makes you realize how special we all are to this magnificent life. Each game drive you see and breath a different air. The smells, landscapes, animals, bugs, birds, sunsets, and landscape are familiar but so very different. It is the journey of it all that makes it magical. Not an easy travel trip but the reward is invaluable.
My last game drive of this trip was watching a huge male lion, a Mufasa if you will, push two young males out of the pride. No longer under the protection of him and their mothers. It was time for them to find there on way, their own pride. It was rare. It was scary. IT WAS MAGNIFICENT. The intensity of their roars I could fill in my bones. THIS IS AFRICA!
We are not that different, we just have different curtains. Learning what is behind the curtains is the jewel of travel. The only way to know is to GO. Thus, I always say, TRAVEL FOR TRAVEL SAKES! Africa is ready for you if you’re ready to experience her! Make the journey — you will never regret it.
